How to Select a Silo-Top Dust Collector

Choosing a suitable silo roof dust collector can help reduce dust escape when powder enters the silo, maintain stable pressure inside the silo, and reduce later filter material replacement and equipment maintenance costs.

Common silo top dust removal equipment mainly includes silo top bag dust collectors and silo top filter cartridge dust collectors. Both equipment can be used for silo roof exhaust filtration of cement, fly ash, mineral powder, lime powder and other powdery materials, but there are differences in structural size, filter area, dust cleaning method and applicable working conditions.

1. Structural characteristics of the bag dust collector on the top of the warehouse

The bag dust collector on the top of the warehouse adopts a cylindrical or square box with multiple filter bags and filter bag skeletons inside. When dusty gas passes through the filter bag, the dust is trapped on the outer surface of the filter bag, and the purified gas is discharged from the clean air chamber.

1. Flexible configuration of filter area: the number and length of filter bags can be adjusted according to the processing air volume and filtration wind speed.

2. Suitable for higher dust loads: After the dust cleaning system is properly designed, it can handle high-concentration dust-containing gases generated during the feeding process.

3. There are many choices of filter materials: filter bags of different materials can be selected according to the dust temperature, humidity, corrosiveness and adhesion.

4. Large maintenance space requirements: space for filter bag extraction and replacement needs to be reserved on the top or side of the equipment.

2. Structural characteristics of the silo top filter cartridge dust collector

The silo top filter cartridge dust collector uses a pleated filter cartridge as the filter element. The filter cartridge forms a larger filtering area in a smaller volume by increasing the number of pleats, so the overall structure of the equipment is usually more compact.

1. The equipment is small in size: suitable for situations where the installation space on the silo top is limited or the installation height is limited.

2. Concentrated filtering area: The pleated structure can arrange a larger filtering area in a limited space.

3. Replacement is more convenient: some equipment can quickly remove and replace the filter cartridge from the top.

4. Pay attention to pleat cleaning: when the dust is highly sticky or the cleaning system does not match, dust may accumulate inside the pleats of the filter cartridge.

3. Comparison of equipment appearance and installation methods

The silo-top baghouse dust collector can be designed as round or square. The height of the equipment and the size of the box are usually determined according to the length of the filter bag and the filtration area. The cartridge dust collectors on the top of the silo mostly adopt a circular compact structure, and there are also square modular products.

When making the actual selection, you should not only judge based on the appearance of the equipment, but also need to confirm the size of the opening on the top of the silo, the load-bearing capacity, the location of the feed pipe, the maintenance space and the layout of the safety valve.

IV. Comparison of dust cleaning methods

Both the bag dust collector on the top of the warehouse and the cartridge dust collector on the top of the warehouse can be cleaned by pulse injection, or mechanical vibration or other dust cleaning methods can be used according to the structure of the equipment.

1. Pulse injection dust cleaning: Using compressed air to instantly blow the filter material, online or scheduled dust cleaning can be achieved.

2. Vibration cleaning: The vibration device makes the dust on the surface of the filter material fall off, and the structure is relatively simple.

3. Pressure difference control dust cleaning: When the equipment resistance reaches the set value, dust cleaning is automatically started, which can reduce ineffective injection.

Whether the filter cartridge is easily clogged mainly depends on the filter cartridge structure, dust properties, filtration wind speed and dust cleaning method. It cannot be simply assumed that all filter cartridge equipment will fail after being used for a period of time.

5. Comparison of filtration performance

The filtration effect of the two devices is related to the filter material accuracy, filtration wind speed, sealing state and dust cleaning effect. Under the same filter material grade and reasonable operating conditions, both cloth bags and filter cartridges can achieve better particle filtration effects.

1. When the dust concentration is high, the filtration wind speed should be appropriately reduced and the filtration area should be increased.

2. When the dust particle size is fine, film-coated filter bags or film-coated filter cartridges can be used.

3. When dust easily absorbs moisture and agglomerates, the insulation of the silo should be strengthened and the filter material should be prevented from condensation.

4. When the dust is highly sticky, filter materials with smooth surfaces and easy cleaning should be selected.

6. Whether an induced draft fan is needed

Whether an induced draft fan is needed for the silo top dust collector should be determined based on the pneumatic conveying air volume, silo exhaust resistance and filter material resistance. Not all silo top bag dust collectors must be equipped with a fan.

When the powder enters the warehouse at a fast speed, the natural exhaust is insufficient, or the pipeline resistance is large, an induced draft fan can be configured at the outlet of the dust collector. The air volume and pressure of the fan should be calculated to avoid excessive positive pressure or excessive negative pressure in the warehouse.

7. Comparison of the service life of filter materials

The actual service life of filter bags and filter cartridges is related to the nature of dust, filtration wind speed, cleaning frequency, inlet air temperature and humidity, and maintenance conditions, and cannot be uniformly judged based on fixed months or fixed years.

1. If the filtration wind speed is too high, it will increase the filter material load and operating resistance.

2. Cleaning too frequently may accelerate the mechanical fatigue of the filter material.

3. Insufficient dust cleaning may easily cause clogging of the filter material and increase the pressure in the warehouse.

4. When condensation, oil stains or sticky materials occur, the life of the filter material may be significantly shortened.

8. Purchase price and operating cost

The price of silo-top baghouse and cartridge dust collectors will be affected by factors such as processing air volume, filtration area, box material, dust cleaning method, control system and filter material grade. The price cannot be judged solely based on the type of equipment.

When evaluating cost performance, equipment purchase costs, compressed air consumption, filter material replacement costs, maintenance man-hours and downtime losses should be comprehensively considered.

1. The single price of cloth bags is usually lower, but the quantity may be larger.

2. A single filter cartridge has a larger filtration area, but the replacement cost of a single cartridge is usually relatively high.

3. The price of accessories will vary depending on specifications, materials, brands and purchase time.

4. Equipment operation stability is more important than simply comparing the unit price of filter materials.

9. Which working conditions are the bag dust collectors on the silo roof more suitable for?

1. Silos with large feed volume and high dust concentration.

2. Working conditions that require a larger filter area.

3. The dust types are complex and special filter materials need to be selected.

4. Systems with higher requirements for continuous operation and online pulse cleaning.

5. A silo with sufficient space on the top for installation and filter bag replacement.

10. Which working conditions are the cartridge dust collectors on the top of the silo more suitable for?

1. Occasions where the top space of the silo is limited and compact equipment is required.

2. Handle working conditions with moderate air volume and good dust mobility.

3. Where you want to quickly disassemble and replace filter elements.

4. A system that adopts pulse cleaning and has stable compressed air conditions.

5. Working conditions where dust is not easy to adhere, condense or block wrinkles.

11. Parameters that need to be provided before selection

1. Silo volume, diameter, height and roof installation space.

2. Powder name, particle size, concentration, temperature and humidity.

3. Pneumatic conveying air volume and maximum feeding speed.

4. Daily feeding times and continuous operation time.

5. Whether the compressed air and power supply conditions are available on site.

6. Emission requirements and whether an induced draft fan is required.

7. Whether the dust is flammable or has the risk of explosion.

There is no absolute advantage or disadvantage between the bag dust collector on the silo roof and the cartridge dust collector on the silo roof. When the air volume is large and the dust load is high, the bag structure can be considered; when the installation space is limited and the dust mobility is good, the filter cartridge structure can be considered. The final selection should be based on the silo exhaust volume, dust properties, filtration wind speed and maintenance conditions.
