Main Components and Uses of Silo-Top Dust Collectors

The main structure, working principle and purpose of the silo roof dust collector
The silo roof dust collector is a filtering equipment installed on the top of the cement silo, fly ash silo, ore powder silo, lime silo and other powder storage silos. It is mainly used to process the dust-containing gas discharged during the transportation and entry of powder materials into the silo.
The equipment is designed based on dust particle size, adhesion, treatment air volume and filter material performance. By rationally selecting the pore size of the filter element or filter bag, the filtration area and the dust cleaning method, the filtration requirements of a variety of powdery materials can be met and the escape of dust from the top of the silo can be reduced.
1. Working principle of the silo roof dust collector
When the bulk transport vehicle transports powder into the silo through pneumatic conveying, a large amount of conveyed air will enter the silo along with the material. The air in the warehouse flows to the top of the warehouse after being squeezed, and carries a certain concentration of dust into the dust collector on the top of the warehouse.
When dusty gas passes through the filter bag or filter element, the dust is trapped on the outer surface of the filter material. The purified air enters the clean air area and is then discharged from the exhaust port of the equipment.
As the dust on the surface of the filter material continues to increase, the operating resistance of the equipment gradually increases. After the dust cleaning system is started, the dust on the surface of the filter material is removed through pulse injection, mechanical vibration or other methods, so that the dust falls back into the silo.
2. The main structure of the dust collector on the top of the warehouse
1. Dust removal box: forms a closed filtering space and carries filtering, dust cleaning and exhaust components.
2. Filtration system: composed of filter bags, filter elements, frames or fixed flower panels, used to separate dust and air.
3. Clean air chamber: collects filtered clean gas and guides it to the exhaust port.
4. Ash cleaning system: Pulse injection, mechanical vibration or chamber backflush can be used to remove accumulated dust.
5. Control system: controls fans, pulse valves, cleaning cycles and equipment failure alarms.
6. Connection base: connected to the top of the silo through flanges, clamps or welded bases.
7. Inspection structure: including access door, top cover and observation port, which facilitates inspection and replacement of filter media.
3. Selection of filter materials
The filter materials of the silo roof dust collector should be selected according to the dust particle size, concentration, temperature, humidity, adhesion and corrosiveness.
1. For ordinary dry dust, polyester needle felt or conventional filter elements can be used.
2. Film-coated filter materials can be used for fine dust to improve surface filtration capabilities.
3. In working conditions with high humidity or easy condensation, waterproof and oil-proof filter materials can be used.
4. For high temperature or corrosive dust, corresponding high temperature resistant, acid and alkali resistant filter materials should be selected.
5. For combustible dust, it should also be evaluated whether anti-static filter materials and explosion-proof measures are needed.
IV. Main forms of dust cleaning systems
The silo roof dust collector can be configured with different dust cleaning systems according to the nature of the dust, equipment specifications and operating frequency.
1. Pulse injection dust cleaning: Use compressed air to instantly blow the filter bag or filter element, suitable for continuous operation and conditions with high dust concentration.
2. Mechanical vibration cleaning: The dust on the surface of the filter material is shed through a vibration device, and the structure is relatively simple.
3. Divided room backflush cleaning: Divide the filtration area into multiple independent spaces, stop filtration in some areas and then perform reverse dust cleaning, which is suitable for some large equipment.
The dust cleaning method should be determined according to the structure of the filter material and the adhesion of dust. Not all dust collectors on the top of the warehouse need to adopt a compartmental air stop structure.
5. Main uses of the dust collector on the top of the silo
1. Filtering the dusty exhaust gas during the feeding process of the cement silo.
2. Dust removal on the roof of fly ash, ore powder and lime powder storage silos.
3. Bin pressure balance and dust control in pneumatic conveying system.
4. Material recovery during the unpacking, transportation and storage of powdery materials.
5. Dust removal from powder silos in metallurgy, building materials, machinery, chemical industry, electric power and light industry.
6. Main features of the equipment
1. Compact structure: installed directly on the top of the silo, it can reduce the space occupied by ground equipment.
2. Reduce dust escape: the dust-laden air discharged during feeding can be filtered.
3. Materials can be recycled: the dust that falls off after cleaning can be returned to the silo.
4. Relatively stable operation: The internal structure of the equipment is simple and can meet continuous operation requirements after reasonable maintenance.
5. Strong adaptability: it can be customized according to the size of the warehouse, the air volume transported and the nature of the dust.
6. Maintenance is more convenient: filter bags, filter elements and dust cleaning components can be replaced through the maintenance structure.
7. Effect on silo pressure
The silo roof dust collector can discharge the conveying air entering the silo during the feeding process, reduce the continuous increase in pressure in the silo, and cooperate with the safety valve to maintain the safe operation of the silo.
The main function of the equipment is to keep the pressure in the silo within a reasonable range, but not to ensure that there is no positive or negative pressure inside the silo. If the dust collector is clogged, the filtration area is insufficient, or the exhaust volume is insufficient, pressure abnormalities may still occur in the warehouse.
8. Parameters that need to be considered when selecting models
1. Silo volume, diameter and top installation space.
2. Powder name, particle size, concentration and adhesion.
3. Maximum feeding speed and pneumatic conveying air volume.
4. The filter wind speed allowed by the filter material.
5. Dust temperature, humidity and corrosiveness.
6. Whether to configure induced draft fan, pulse cleaning and pressure difference monitoring.
7. Emission requirements and equipment installation environment.
9. Precautions for installation and operation
1. Check the load-bearing capacity of the top of the silo and the size of the flange before installation.
2. Ensure that the connection between the equipment and the silo is sealed reliably to avoid dust leakage.
3. Regularly check whether the filter bag or filter element is blocked, damaged or aged.
4. Check whether the pulse valve, air bag and blow pipe are working properly.
5. Observe the pressure difference of the equipment and clean or repair it in time if any abnormal resistance is found.
6. Regularly check the safety valve and material level gauge of the silo to prevent abnormal pressure in the silo.
7. Stop feeding, cut off the power supply and release the compressed air pressure before maintenance.
The filtration efficiency, emission concentration and operating energy consumption of the silo roof dust collector are closely related to the treatment air volume, dust properties, filtration area, filter material selection and dust cleaning effect. The actual equipment should be designed according to the feeding conditions of the silo, and cannot be selected based only on general efficiency or fixed parameters.
