PP Exhaust Gas Scrubbers Explained: Components, Operation, and Applications

PP waste gas scrubber is an environmentally friendly equipment that uses packing absorption to treat industrial waste gas. It is suitable for continuous or intermittent operation. After the exhaust gas enters the tower, it fully contacts the spray liquid and the liquid film on the surface of the filler, so that the dust, acid and alkali components and some water-soluble pollutants are absorbed, captured or neutralized.

PP Exhaust Gas Scrubbers Explained: Components, Operation, and Applications

The equipment can be configured with different spray levels, filler layers, circulating liquids and defogging structures according to the waste gas composition, treatment air volume, temperature and emission requirements. It is widely used in electroplating, pickling, chemical industry, electronics, metal surface treatment and other waste gas treatment scenarios.

1. Main components of PP exhaust gas scrubber

PP exhaust gas scrubber usually consists of tower body, packing layer, spray system, demist layer, circulating water tank, circulating water pump, air inlet and outlet, maintenance port and control system.

1. Tower body: Made of PP plate, it has good acid and alkali resistance and corrosion resistance.

2. Filling layer: Increase the air-liquid contact area to fully contact the exhaust gas and the absorption liquid.

3. Spray system: It consists of circulating water pump, spray pipeline and nozzle, which is used to spray the absorbing liquid evenly.

4. Demist layer: removes droplets entrained in the purified gas and reduces the discharge of water mist.

5. Circulating water tank: used to store and recycle the absorption liquid, and is equipped with water replenishment, sewage discharge and dosing interfaces.

6. Inspection structure: including viewing windows, inspection openings and removable parts to facilitate inspection of nozzles, fillers and demisters.

2. Working principle of PP waste gas scrubbing tower

The waste gas enters through the air inlet of the tower body and passes through the spray area and packing layer under the action of the fan. The circulating water pump delivers the absorption liquid to the nozzle, which sprays the liquid into fine droplets and forms a liquid film on the surface of the filler.

When exhaust gas comes into contact with the absorption liquid, dust can be captured by the droplets through collision, interception and agglomeration; acidic or alkaline pollutants can be dissolved or neutralized in the absorption liquid. The treated gas passes through the demister layer to separate water droplets and is discharged from the air outlet.

The core treatment methods of the PP scrubber are spray absorption and acid-base neutralization. For organic waste gases that are difficult to dissolve in water, such as benzene, ketones, and esters, they usually need to be used in combination with activated carbon adsorption, catalytic combustion, or other purification equipment.

3. Main features of PP waste gas scrubber

1. Good corrosion resistance: suitable for processing a variety of acidic, alkaline and corrosive waste gases.

2. Smooth operation: The equipment structure is relatively simple and can maintain low operating resistance after reasonable design.

3. Easy operation and maintenance: the nozzle, filler and demister layer can be disassembled, cleaned or replaced regularly.

4. Flexible configuration: single-stage or multi-stage spray can be set up according to the treatment air volume and exhaust gas concentration.

5. Recyclable liquid: The absorption liquid can be recycled according to the operating conditions, with regular water replenishment, dosing and sewage discharge.

6. Wide range of applications: it can be used for exhaust gas cooling, humidification, dust removal and acid-base gas absorption.

IV. Common application fields

1. Acid mist and alkali mist generated by electroplating, pickling, etching and metal surface treatment.

2. Water-soluble or neutralizable waste gas produced during chemical production.

3. Corrosive exhaust gases produced by laboratories, electronic manufacturing and machining.

4. Sewage treatment, sludge treatment and partial odor gas pretreatment.

5. Front-end cooling and dust removal treatment of exhaust gases from spraying, printing and furniture manufacturing.

5. Precautions for equipment installation

1. The equipment foundation should be flat and firm, and a concrete foundation or steel structure base should be set according to the weight of the tower and operating conditions.

2. Water pumps, fans and motors should be fixed separately to prevent operating vibrations from being transmitted to the tower body.

3. The air inlet and outlet ducts should be firmly connected and provided with necessary supports to prevent the weight of the ducts from directly acting on the equipment interface.

4. During transportation and hoisting, the tower body, flanges, spray pipes and inspection openings should be protected to prevent collision or deformation of PP plates.

5. When installing outdoors, the water pump, motor and electric control box should be protected from rain, sun and moisture.

6. Correct start-up and shutdown sequence

When starting the equipment, sufficient absorption liquid should be added to the circulating water tank first, and then the circulating water pump should be started. After confirming that the sprinkler system is operating normally and that the nozzles are not clogged, start the exhaust fan.

When shutting down, you should first stop the exhaust gas source and turn off the fan, then let the circulating water pump continue to run for a period of time to flush the inside of the tower, and then turn off the water pump and main power supply.

1. Start-up sequence: Check equipment → replenish absorbent → start water pump → check spray → start fan.

2. Shutdown sequence: stop the exhaust gas source → turn off the fan → continue spraying and flushing → turn off the water pump.

7. Operation and maintenance requirements

1. Regularly check the circulating fluid level, pH value, color and sediment conditions.

2. When the concentration or pH value of the absorption solution cannot meet the treatment requirements, the agent should be replenished or the circulating fluid should be replaced in time.

3. Regularly clean the nozzles, fillers, circulating water tanks and demister layers to prevent scaling and clogging.

4. Check the fans, water pumps, valves and pipelines for abnormal noise, leakage or vibration.

5. Develop maintenance cycles based on operating load and water quality conditions. It is not advisable to perform maintenance only on a fixed number of years.

6. Before maintenance, shut down the machine, cut off the power, and confirm that no harmful gas remains inside the tower.

8. Anti-freezing measures in winter

When the PP exhaust gas scrubber is used in an outdoor low-temperature environment, insulation or heat tracing measures should be taken for the circulating water tank, pipelines, water pumps and valves to prevent the absorption liquid from freezing, causing pipeline rupture and equipment damage.

When shutting down for a long time, the liquid in the circulating water tank and pipelines should be drained, and the nozzles and water pumps should be cleaned to avoid freezing of residual liquid.

9. Explanation on odor treatment methods

The masking method and dilution diffusion method can only reduce the odor sensation to a certain extent, but cannot truly remove pollutants. For malodorous exhaust gas, priority should be given to chemical washing, biological deodorization, activated carbon adsorption or other suitable treatment processes based on the composition.

The treatment effect of the PP exhaust gas scrubber is closely related to the exhaust gas composition, treatment air volume, spray volume, filler height, absorption liquid formula and daily maintenance. Actual equipment should be designed based on working condition parameters and cannot be selected directly based on general specifications.
