How a Horizontal PP Scrubber Works

1. Introduction to PP horizontal scrubber

PP horizontal scrubber is a gas purification treatment equipment that can adsorb or treat toxic and harmful substances in waste gas through activated carbon filler, biological filler, etc., so it is widely used in industrial waste gas purification in chemical industry, electronics, machinery, coal, metallurgy and other industries.

The horizontal scrubber is arranged horizontally, with the air inlet and exhaust port set in the horizontal direction. The equipment can be equipped with activated carbon filters, spray systems or other purification components according to the exhaust gas composition, treatment air volume and filtration requirements to meet the exhaust gas treatment needs under different working conditions.

2. Structural design of horizontal activated carbon scrubber

In order to improve the exhaust gas filtration effect and take into account equipment costs, the horizontal activated carbon scrubber adopts a compact structure and easy maintenance design. The main body of the equipment is a hollow tower body set horizontally. One end of the tower body is provided with an air inlet, the other end is provided with an air outlet, and one or more activated carbon filters are provided in the middle of the tower body.

The upper part of the tower body is equipped with an activated carbon feeding port to facilitate filling or replacing adsorption materials; the bottom of the tower body is equipped with a discharge port for discharging expired activated carbon. Activated carbon filters usually adopt a box-type structure, with holes on the surface and activated carbon filled in the middle, so that the exhaust gas can evenly pass through the filter layer and fully contact the adsorption material.

When multiple activated carbon filters are installed, an air collection cavity can be formed between adjacent filters, and the direction of the air flow can be guided through partitions. The cavity between the outermost filter and the inner wall of the tower can also be closed with side partitions to reduce air flow short circuits and improve filtration utilization.

A primary filter can be set up between the air inlet and the activated carbon filter to pre-filter larger particles and reduce dust from entering the activated carbon layer, thereby extending the service life of the activated carbon.

3. Purification Principle of PP Horizontal Spray Tower

The PP horizontal spray tower is equipped with a spray system and a packing layer inside, so that the exhaust gas and the absorption liquid are in full contact within the tower body. Utilizing the solubility of harmful gases in the absorption liquid, the soluble components continuously enter the absorption liquid, thereby reducing the content of harmful substances in the exhaust gas.

According to the composition of the exhaust gas, an appropriate amount of chemicals can be added to the absorption liquid so that harmful substances can be continuously absorbed, transformed or removed through chemical reactions during the flow process. After spraying, packing contact and gas-liquid separation, the treated gas is discharged from the air outlet of the scrubber.

IV. The main components of the horizontal scrubber

1. A hollow PP tower body set horizontally.

2. Air inlets and exhaust outlets are provided at both ends of the tower.

3. Activated carbon filter or packing layer installed inside the tower.

4. The activated carbon feeding port or inspection port is located on the upper part of the tower body.

5. The discharge port or liquid discharge port is provided at the bottom of the tower.

6. Partitions, side partitions and air collecting cavities used to guide airflow.

7. Spray pipelines, circulating water tanks, water pumps and defogger devices can be selected according to working conditions.

5. Precautions for packing layer design

When liquid flows in the packing layer, it is easy to form wall flow along the tower wall, resulting in part of the packing not being fully wetted, thus reducing the gas-liquid contact efficiency.

When the height of the filler layer is high, the segmented setting method can be used, and a liquid distributor can be set between the two sections of filler to redistribute the absorption liquid so that the liquid is distributed more evenly in the filler layer and improve the exhaust gas purification effect.
